Anju and Yuu meet again by chance in Tokyo at the train station. She has moved with her family and is taking violin lessons. Anju suffers from a weak heart that is a life-threatening condition. They immediately return to their friendship, causing Miki much anxiety.
Anju has loved Yuu since their childhood. She tells Miki about her feelings and that she has no intention of breaking them up. She just wants to be Miki’s "second." When Miki isn’t with Yuu, Anju wants to spend time with him.
Anju leaves for the US to seek treatment for her medical condition.
Kitahara Anju was Yuu’s best friend in sixth grade. She noticed him crying in the woods and wanted to cheer him up. She walked over to him and bopped him over the head with her Anne of Green Gables books in the same manner as Anne breaks her slate over Gilbert’s head. Her actions earn her the nickname An. While Yuu lived in the same area, he and Anju were best friends. After she moved, they lost touch.
