Miki cannot hide her emotions and is easily hurt. As a middle school student she had a crush on her best friend, Ginta, but was rejected by him in front of her friends. She mentions that it took a long time to get over the moment of rejection and learn to be comfortable around him again.

Miki usually experiences some world-shattering event just as she is beginning to feel comfortable in a given situation. She is successful and happy at school only to have her world turned inside out when her parents announced they are planning to divorce and swap spouses with a couple they met on a Hawaiian vacation. Although she is upset about her life being complicated by her "immature" parents, the Matsuura’s have a son her age. The two families move into a house, and Miki and Yuu discover that they have feelings for each other.

Yuu enrolls at Toryo and soon has developed quite a fan club from the female students. His popularity adds stress to their relationship and she secures an after-school job to save money for their special trip together and take her mind off things. She works part-time at Bobson’s Ice Cream Parlor.

Miki’s jealousy and inability to trust Yuu around other girls causes problems for their relationship.
